The Mary Clarke Competition was held at our meeting on the 11th May 2017.
This year’s competition was to ‘Write a Thank You Letter about the Guild’ 50 -100 words.
Judges for the competition were Miriam and Yvonne Clarke daughters of the late Mary. Winners were, 1st Prize Rita O’Regan, 2nd Prize Clare Magee, 3rd Prize Patsy Mitchell.

**************************************************************************Dublin Federation ICA is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2017. To mark the occasion there will be a Gala Dinner in the Gresham Hotel O’Connell St on Friday October 6th @ 8pm. This will be preceded by a cocktail reception @ 7.30pm.There will be music and a free raffle. They will be sold on a first come first served basis and will go on sale at the Federation meeting on Thursday(Feb.23rd) in The Gresham Hotel.
The rate for a single room for B&B is €145. (Normally €202 ).
The rate for a double room for B&B is €165. (Normally €235 ).
If you are booking accommodation please remind the Gresham of ICA’s special rates.
Tickets are limited in number. As the event is being subsidised from Federation funds, only paid up members may attend.Tickets cost €45 – Included : Cocktail Reception, Four course dinner, Musical entertainment and a free raffle.

Birdwatching Event
The outing on Saturday 13th May 2017 with Eric Dempsey aka ‘The Birdman’ was fully subscribed . This wonderful birdwatching event took place near the seaside in the Kilcoole & Newcastle area.

Our Guild Meeting on Thursday 11th May 2017 was our AGM.
Our President Sheila Hurley welcomes all new Committee Members for the coming year and thanked the outgoing Committee members.
This also marked the 24th Birthday of the Marlay ICA Guild and a beautiful birthday cake was made by Mary McSweeney.
There was a fantastic display of Crafts that were made by Guild Members over the year.

International Night 2017
Our International Night was held on Thursday 27th April 2017.
Nathalie-Zoé Fabert, Cooperation Attaché For French Language at The Embassy of France 🇫🇷, Ireland, was the guest speaker.
Our President thanks our International Officer, Mary White for facilitating this event, as well as all of the Guild Members who helped to make the night such a great success.

Eric Luke Photographer for the Irish Times was our guest speaker at our Guild Meeting on Thursday 6th April 2017.
Eric’s topic was “The man behind the camera” and we had a wonderful night looking at the photos and hearing about the stories behind many moments captured by Eric over his career.
And, there was a fantastic level of interest by our members in the Photograph Competition that was adjudicated by Eric on the night.

Visit to the DAIL
Marlay Guild Outing to Kilkenny, Saturday 25th March 2017
The coach was organised, tea/coffee & scones were had on the way down. We visited Kilkenny Castle and took a Castle express trip , and had some time set aside for shopping. And, on the way back we finished our day out with a lovely Dinner.

Mick spoke on “My father’s famous last words” as well as giving us a tour de force including some wonderful memories from the world of Radio.

Our Guest Speaker on Thursday 23rd February 2017 was Eric Dempsey aka ‘The Birdman’.
Eric is Ireland’s leading expert on Birds. He is author of 8 books on Ireland’s birds and National Heritage. As well as introducing us to his latest ‘Don’t Die in Autumn : A Memoir’ Eric presented many fantastic photos that he had taken of rare and beautiful birds as well as much loved species.

Our Guild Meeting on Thursday 9th February 2017 was a Discourse on ……Ireland as a Global Leader in Forward Inward Investment(FID), International Economics, Politics , History, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), The Internet-of-Everything, Education, the Human Factor in Business…and much more besides.
We were privileged to hear the personal insights from Experience at the highest level , brought to us by our Guest Speaker Padraic White, the former Managing Director of the Industrial Development Authority and first Chairman of the Luas.

Our Guest Speaker Solicitor Bernadette Parte explained the ins- and-outs of legal topics that our members had especially asked about.
And after all that , Bernadette kept the room buzzing with a brilliant Q&A session on Inheritance Planning and other items of interest!
